Before we understand about the difference between BS6 and BS7 we first need to understand what is BS stands for.
There is a lot of difference between BS7 and BS6 phase two, petrol and diesel vehicles causes air pollution that is a universal fact. BS norms means Bharat stage emission standards. It’s an Indian government rule which are made to controls the pollution comes from the vehicle. India follows EURO norms, the very first BS norm was introduced in the year 2000.
The norms were made so that least damage or harm can be caused to the environment and also toward health. These knobs and shores that gases like carbon monoxide Co, nitrogen oxide NOx, particulate matter PM that comes from vehicle should be released in a very limited amount.
More the BS norms are stick less the pollution will be ’cause. Every year the government introduce a BS norm. Currently in India we have BS 6 Phase 2 going on witches very strict done BS4 norm. In this vehicles have to use advanced technology so that it caused less pollution to the environment.
1 April 2020 ko indian govt. BS5 ko skip krne ka decide kiya aur seedha, Bs6 ko India mein mein implement kra gya tha. Bs6 SCR yaani Selective Catalytic Reduction aur DPF yani Diesel Particulate Filter jesi advanced technology ko use krta hai jisse pollution kam ho. On 1st April 2020 Indian Indian government skips DS5 and directly implements BS6 in India.
In BS 6 direct fuel injection technology is used where the engine fuel directly gone to the combustion chamber. Secondly also uses exhaust gas recirculation system which is a emission reduction technique.
In simple words it reduces harmful gases like nitrogen oxide and increase the fuel efficiency of a vehicle. In BS6 the sulphur traces is just 10 PPM which makes the engine clean and produces less pollution.
On 1st April 2023 BS6 phase 2 was introduced, in this the main aim of BS six phase two was to reduce the particulate matter PM, 82% nitrogen oxide, 70% hydrocarbons and 51% carbon monoxide. Apart from this Indian government implement real driver mission rde in which vehicles are tested in the labs instead of driving them in the real world to check the mission of the vehicles. Because of that the prices of the car increases by 12,000 to 55000.
Now let’s talk about BS7 norms which is going to be implemented in 2025 for cars and, 2027 for trucks and buses. BS7 has a aim to reduce 43% of air pollutants and gases till 2030. NBS 6 a car has to control its emission till five years or 1,00,000 kilometer, but in BS the emission controlling time and distance has been increased to 10 years and 2,00,000 kilometres. Which means a car has to amid pollution according to the limit till 10 years or 2,00,000 kilometres.
To control the emissions of the vehicle a catalytic converter is used in the vehicles. Catalytic converter uses a chemical reaction to reduce pollution. To start the chemical reaction in the catalytic converter it has to reach the temperature of 399°C with the help of engine which take usually 4 to 5 minutes.Initially, when the car starts, it produces a greater amount of pollution compared to when it has been running for 15 to 20 minutes.
According to BS7A car has to emit pollution according to the emission norms since the car is cold started. To meet the requirement car makers has to do some changes in the catalytic converter by placing a powerful heater inside the catalytic converter. So, that it reaches the temperature where it can do chemical reactions. This will directly affect the pricing of the vehicles.
According to PS7 norms a car has to have a obm on board monitoring system which is use to check real time emission. For that many sensors has to be installed in the exhaust system.
If your car is emitting pollution more than the admission norms then the opium meter will give you warning if you ignore the warning after a specific time your car won’t start till you change the exhaust system.
This is for the first time BS norm is considering tailpipe PM emission. When we use his break in her car very small participant matters came out from the calipers which indirectly pollutes the year, to control this government has asked the car makers to take necessary steps in the manufacturing of the brake calipers so that it produces less PM particulate matter.
Bs7 norms ke mutabik cars ko hill areas mein bhi utne hi emission krne hoge jitne vo land area mein krti hai. According to BS 7 norms a car has to equally emit pollution in the hill areas as it emit in the land area.
When it comes to nitrogen oxides emitted from petrol engines, the target is to reduce it from 60 gm/km to 30 gm/km, with a goal of cutting other gases by up to 50%.
According to BS 7 regulations, the cost of manufacturing cars could increase significantly, which would raise the price of the vehicles as well. Overall, the BS 7 norms are expected to be much stricter and more advanced than BS 6 Phase 2.
