Sabse phele samjhte hai ki LED kya hoti hai. LEDs yani light emitting diode, ye lights 90% zada efficient hoti hai incandescent light bulbs se. LED ke andar do layers hoti hain – ek side pe positive charge wale particles, yani majority carriers, aur dusri side pe, negative charge wale particles yani minority carriers. Jab isme se current flow hota hai, yeh particles apas mein milte hain.
Jab positive aur negative particles milte hain, toh wo apni energy ko release karte hain. Yeh energy photons, yani roshni ke chote-chote particles ke form me release hoti hai. Yeh photons hi LED se light ke roop me bahar aate hain.
Jitna zyada current LED me se flow hota hai, utni zyada particles milte hain aur utni hi zyada light produce hoti hai. Iska matlab, agar hum LED ko zyada current denge, toh LED aur bright ho jayega. Lekin ye ek limit tak hi brightness ho sakti hai. Uske baad, chahe hum current badhate rahein, LED aur bright nahi hogi. Ab baat krte hai ki humein LED lamps mein driver ki zarurat kyu padti hai. LED lamp ko ek constant aur exact amount ka current aur voltage chahiye hota hai. Agar current ya voltage thoda bhi zyada ya kam ho jaye, LED sahi se kaam nahi karegi ya jaldi kharab ho jaegi hai.

Nick Holonyak Ka Yogdan
Nick Holonyak Jr. ek prasiddh electrical engineer ko LED lighting ke “godfather” ke roop mein jaana jaata hai. Unhone flat-screen TVs aur laptop computers ko roshan karne wale LEDs ko develop kiya. Unhone lasers bhi develop kiye jo DVD aur CD players bar code scanners, aur medical diagnostic devices mein use hote hain. Unka 18 September ko Urbana, Illinois mein death ho gaya jahan unki umra 93 saal thi.
Unki death ke baad, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, jo unki alma mater thi, ne yeh ghoshna ki. Wahan unki yaad mein 19 September ko campus ke State Farm Center arena ko red light se roshan kiya gaya, jo unki 1962 mein banayi gayi pehli visible light-emitting diode (LED) ki commemorative tribute thi.
Nick Holonyak aur LED Technology
Professor Holonyak ne LED ke vikas ke shuruati dino mein hi yeh prediction kiya tha ki traditional incandescent bulbs, jo metal filaments ko heat karke light create karte hain, aur fluorescent lamps, jo ionized gas ka use karte hain, eventually LEDs se replace ho jayenge.
